Announcing the 2022 Conference of The Sacra Doctrina Project (responsible for the maintenance of Thomistica.net): “Grace and Sanctification: Divine Causality, Human Action, and Supernatural Glory.” June 23-25, 2022 at Thomas Aquinas College - New England. Featuring Steven A. Long and Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P. as keynote speakers, as well as Daria Spezzano and Patrick M. Gardner as plenary sessions.

Conference: St. Thomas Aquinas as Spiritual Teacher (February 2022)

The Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal at Ave Maria University and the Thomistic Institute of the Pontifical Faculty at the Dominican House of Studies invite papers for their co-sponsored conference on St. Thomas Aquinas as Spiritual Teacher: Theology in a Culture of Grace. The conference will take place at Ave Maria, Florida on February 10-12, 2022. At this event where we celebrate the spiritual benefits of St. Thomas's theology, we will also honor Archbishop J. Augustine Di Noia, O.P., Adjunct Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Call for Papers: Aquinas at Kalamazoo

The Center for Thomistic Studies and the Thomas Aquinas Society, under the leadership of Steven Jensen and John Boyle, respectively, have announced a call for papers for their six sessions at the 2020 International Congress for Medieval Studies. The Congress is held every May at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. These sessions are devoted to Medieval theology and philosophy, especially that in the Thomistic tradition and found in the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas himself. For consideration, submit a 300-word abstract to jfboyle@stthomas.edu and to jensensj@stthom.edu by September 15, 2019.

Call for Papers: Fr. Dewan Symposium

Dominican University College in Ottawa is hosting its annual Symposium from Thursday, September 19 to Friday, September 20 in honor of the great Dominican scholar, Fr. Lawrence Dewan. Fr. Dewan was an incredibly gifted teacher whose impact on the study Thomistic metaphysics, natural philosophy, and ethics cannot be overstated. This year’s Symposium takes as its theme, The Study of Philosophy, and will feature Gregory T. Doolan as its keynote speaker. “The specific theme of The Study of Philosophy is intended in part to elicit thinking on the personal contribution of Father Lawrence Dewan to Thomistic philosophical thinking.” The organizers have issued a call for papers in either English or French, requesting full-page abstracts to be submitted to rene.fehr@dominicanu.ca by Friday, August 2. Call for Papers: Thomas Aquinas & the Crisis of Christology

The Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal (at Ave Maria University) and the Thomistic Institute (at the Dominican House of Studies) are teaming up once again for a February 2020 academic conference to be held in Ave Maria. This year’s theme is, “Thomas Aquinas and the Crisis of Christology.” The Sacra Doctrina Project’s own Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., will be featured as one of two keynote speakers.

Symposium Thomisticum to be held in Athens June 7-9, 2018

The third Symposium Thomisticum will take place in Athens, Greece, 7-9 June 2018, kindly co-hosted by the University of Athens and Athens Academy.

The theme of the Symposium is Aquinas and the Greeks.

Papers are invited for a number of supplementary parallel sessions. The overall number of participants will be limited to sixty; priority will be given to those presenting papers. In order to avoid overlap of topics, initial proposals should be sent by email to Fran O'Rourke (orourke@ucd.ie).

The deadline for abstracts is 1 December, and for completed papers 1 May 2018. Papers will be circulated in advance; summaries will be presented at the symposium: papers will be discussed rather than read.

Participation fee will be EUR125, to include refreshments and the conference banquet.

Participants will be responsible for their own accommodation.

Upcoming Conference: 52nd International Congress of Medieval Studies

The 52nd International Congress of Medieval Studies will be held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from May 11th to the 14th, 2017.

The Kalamazoo conference is the largest congress for Medieval Studies in the world.  The cost of room and board is quite moderate, and the atmosphere is congenial to those interested in Aquinas.

There will be a total of 6 sessions devoted to Medieval philosophical and theological thought, especially that of Aquinas, sponsored by:

Thomism Conference by Dominican Friars Postponed

The friars of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) have held conferences on Thomism in 2010 (Warsaw) and 2013 (Washington, D.C.), with plans (as I had earlier noted) for another in 2016, to be hosted by the Toulouse Province of friars (publishers of the Revue Thomiste). However, due to several events already scheduled for 2016, including those connected with the 800th Jubilee of the Order, the conference has been postponed until 2017. 

While conference attendance has been restricted to Dominican friars, some of the presentations have been published, both for the 2010 conference (Dominicans and the Challenge of Thomism) and for the 2013 event (Nova et Vetera 12.4, Autumn 2014).
